BACOLOD City – A five-year-old girl died after she was hit by a tricycle when she fell from the vehicle at Barangay Tampalon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental last Wednesday.
Police withheld the name of the victim.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Jonel Guadalupe, city police chief, said four passengers were riding a tricycle driven by 30-year-old Jun Mark Villaflor of the said village, when the victim fell from the tricycle.
Guadalupe said the victim’s hand slipped after she glanced back at her father, who called her when they were about to disembark from the tricycle on their way home.
His father was seated at the back of the tricycle driver.
The victim was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared dead due to head injuries.
Guadalupe said Villaflor was not speeding when it happened. He was released from police custody the following day after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention.
He also had an initial settlement with the victim’s family, the city police chief added.
