61 campus publications in Western Visayas converged in Iloilo City for the annual College Press Conference (COPRE) and Awards at Iloilo Grand Hotel on Nov 29.
Spearheaded by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-6, this year’s event, which was endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), bannered the theme “Journalism, Peace, and Development”.
PIA-6 OIC-Regional Head Jaime S. Cabag, Jr. said that COPRE is conducted yearly to recognize the contribution of campus publications in the developmental communication initiatives of the agency.
“The number of participants has been increasing every year which showed the dynamism of the students,” he said.

For major categories, Central Echo of Central Philippine University (CPU) is Best Magazine, followed by The Dolphin of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Arevalo (JBLFMU-Arevalo) in second place, The Augustinian Mirror of the University of San Agustin (USA), third; Penumbra of the University of Antique (UA)-Main Campus, fourth; and Dimensions of West Visayas State University (WVSU) in fifth place.
For Best Newspaper/Tabloid, The Spectrum of University of St. La Salle landed in first place while Central Echo of CPU, The Augustinian of USA, The Forum of WVSU, and The Sentinel of Hercor College settling for second, third, fourth, and fifth places, respectively.
For Best Departmental Paper category, Silak of WVSU-College of Education won first place, Vital Signs of WVSU-College of Medicine was second followed by The Mediator of WVSU-College of Communication, The Herald of Filamer Christian University-College of Arts and Sciences, and The Executive of Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (NONESCOST) College of Business and Management.
Other categories for tertiary level publications included Best News Page, Best Editorial Page, Best Feature Page, Best Filipino Page, Best Sports Page, Best Literary Folio, Best College Newsletter, Best Wall Newspaper, and Best Online Newsletter.
The Central Echo of CPU, The Spectrum of USLS, The Augustinian of USA, The Dolphin of JBLFMU-Arevalo, The Forum of WVSU, Silak Media Inc. of WVSU-COE, and The Sentinel of Hercor College were among the campus publications which garnered numerous recognition in the publications contest categories.
For the high school level, Ang Biyaya publication of Pavia National High School, Pavia, Iloilo was awarded as first place in both High School Newsletter/Tabloid and Online Newsletter categories. (PIA-Iloilo)
