A contributing photographer of Daily Guardian is mounting an exhibit-cum-charity event featuring photos he shot during the 2019 edition of the Dinagyang Festival.
United Kingdom-based photojournalist Ramil Gorrieza said the local photography club he organized, Noble Shooters of Iloilo (NSI), will hold the photo exhibition in line with Dinagyang Festival 2020.
The charity event will be held at the Festive Walk Mall on Jan 12-30, 2020. It will showcase 12 x 18-inch high quality photographs Mr. Gorrieza took during Dinagyang 2019 as a Daily Guardian photojournalist. All photos were printed in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Gorrieza said he decided to hold the exhibition after reading an article published in Daily Guardian about the school feeding program of the Department of Education.
“It is fact that there are still a lot of public school students who go to school with empty stomachs. It had also touched me most to see on social media a photo of that certain student that goes to school and spends his lunch break eating under the shade of a tree, with only rice and soy sauce for his meal. Something has to be done to help many of them,” he said.
The photos on exhibit will be sold to anyone interested and the money raised will be donated to the Department of Education’s feeding program of public school students. One photograph sold will provide 55 meals.
“It is these students that tirelessly work, practice and perform to make our festival always a success. It is just right and proper to give something back to them,” Mr. Gorrieza said.
It is the earnest hope of NSI to sell all photos on exhibit and raise enough money to provide at least 2,000 meals.
“You have the power to help feed a hungry child,” he added.
