BACOLOD City – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) in Negros Oriental said Thursday that it is investigating a suspected meningococcemia case in the province.
Authorities refused to identify the patient.
Information provided by the Negros Oriental PHO indicated that the patient was first admitted to the Holy Child Hospital in Dumaguete City and later transferred to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH).
The local health office said the patient is currently “unstable” and they have already taken blood sample which was forwarded to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Metro Manila for analysis.
In the meantime, Degamo appealed to the public to refrain from concocting stories until the laboratory results comes out. He also requested Holy Child Hospital and the Department of Health to issue an official statement over the incident.
“We strongly advise the public to stop from making stories especially in social media platforms that would cause undue public panic,” Degamo added.
