Two dead, one hurt in NegOr shooting

BACOLOD City – Two persons were killed while another was injured in two separate shooting incidents in Negros Oriental last Friday.

In Bais City, Joseph Romano, 48, of Barangay Binohon, died while his companion Gilbert Calumpang was injured after they were attacked by two unidentified men on a motorcycle at Barangay 2.

A report from Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo), indicate that Romano and Calumpang were on their way to the Civil Security Office for work when the suspects reportedly tailed and shot them.

Romano died on the spot while Calumpang was wounded on his right wrist.

Recovered from the scene were 17 shells of .45 caliber ammunition and the victims’ motorcycle.

Later that day in Guihulngan City, Franie Genandoy Avanceña, 56, of Barangay Basak, was also killed by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants at the said village.

Police records indicated that Avanceña was sitting in the waiting shed when he was shot by the gunmen. He was rushed to Guihulngan District Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police recovered from the scene four empty shells of .45 caliber ammunition and a slug.

Based on the record of Guihulngan City Police Station, the victim was a drug surrenderer in 2016, but was arrested in a drug raid in November 2018.

Avanceña was released from police custody when he posted bail, police records showed.
