Georgetown University announced and confirmed that their head coach, NBA Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing, tested positive for COVID-19.
Ewing was the only member of the Georgetown Hoyas that contracted the virus out of all the players, employees, and the coaching staff.
“This virus is serious and should not be taken lightly. I want to encourage everyone to stay safe and take care of yourselves and your loved ones,” Ewing said in his Twitter account.
It was Georgetown’s athletics department that confirmed that Ewing is currently hospitalized and is under isolation and care.
After retiring in the NBA and going down as one of the best centers of all-time, Ewing turned to coaching and had numerous stints as an assistant coach in the NBA before taking over the helm as the Hoyas’ chief tactician.
“Now more than ever, I want to thank healthcare workers and everyone on the front lines. I’ll be fine and we will all get through this,” added Ewing.
