Region 6 inches closer to 900 COVID-19 cases

Western Visayas is inching closer to the 900-mark of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases as the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-WV CHD) reported 37 new cases on July 23, 2020.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the region so far is 894 with 332 active cases.

Twenty-eight Locally Stranded Individuals make up the bulk of the latest batch of cases:

– 31-year-old male from San Joaquin, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 861);

– 40-year-old male from San Dionisio, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 862);

– 29-year-old female from Tubungan, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 865);

– 22-year-old female from San Remigio, Antique (WV Patient No. 867);

– 38-year-old male from Mina, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 870);

– 40-year-old male from Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 871);

– 43-year-old male from Bago City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 872);

– 24-year-old male from Talisay City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 873);

– 30-year-old female from Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 874);

– two-year-old female from Silay City, Negros Ocicdental (WV Patient No. 875);

– 30-year-old female from San Carlos City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 876);

– 26-year-old male from Sipalay City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 877);

– 42-year-old female from Bago City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 878);

– 28-year-old male from Manapla, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 879);

All new LSI cases are under facility-based quarantine.

Three of the cases are Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROF):

– 36-year-old male from Guimbal, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 858);

– 35-year-old female from Cabatuan, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 859); and

– 31-year-old male from Oton, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 860).

The three new ROF cases are all also under facility-based quarantine.

The remaining six cases are local cases:

– 40-year-old male from Pototan, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 863);

– 50-year-old female from Molo, Iloilo City (WV Patient No. 864);

– 24-year-old male from City Proper, Iloilo City (WV Patient No. 866);

– 36-year-old female from Jaro, Iloilo City (WV Patient No. 868);

– 21-year-old female from Bacolod City (WV Patient No. 869); and

– 32-year-old male from Bacolod City (WV Patient No. 892).

WV Patient No. 863 is admitted to a hospital, WV Patient Nos. 864 and 866 are under home-based quarantine, while the remaining local cases are under facility-based quarantine.

Five new cases tested in the region were also confirmed positive for COVID-19 but were tagged to other regions. They are all Authorized Persons Outside of Residence.

The DOH-WV CHD also reported 27 new recoveries.

The number of COVID-19 recoveries is now at 546, while the number of COVID-19 fatalities remain at 16.

A total of 598 test results via Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) were released by the DOH-WV CHD from four accredited laboratories in the region, with 555 yielding negative results.
