BACOLOD City – A man was wounded while his son survived a gun attack perpetrated by five unidentified armed persons at Purok Home Lot, Barangay Jonob-jonob, Escalante City, Negros Occidental last Saturday.
Police identified one of the victims as Jhunmar Sante, 39, an overseer, while police withheld the name of his 13-year-old son.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Gil Despi, city police chief, said the victims were riding a motorcycle when they were waylaid by two perpetrators while their three cohorts served as lookout.
The victims jumped from their motorcycle and ran towards the sugarcane plantation to hide, Despi said.
However, Sante, who was the alleged target in the shooting, suffered a lone gunshot wound in the chin, while his son was unharmed. The perpetrators then fled.
Despi said Sante is now stable at a hospital.
Despi said they have no lead yet on the motive of the incident, adding that Sante just returned home from Manila a few months ago.
“Basi bala may previous na nga kaaway kag nag balos lang,” he added.
