Western Visayas recorded the highest number of recoveries on June 16, 2021, with almost 900 new recoveries logged amid the surge in cases in the past week.
Based on Covid-19 Regional Case Bulletin of Department of Health Western Visayas (DOH-6), 871 recoveries were logged, pushing the total recoveries in the region to 44,457. This is the highest number of recoveries in a day so far, according to the health department.
Meanwhile, 662 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the region on Wednesday.
Iloilo province recorded the highest number of new infections with 137; followed by Antique with 99; Bacolod City (95); Negros Occidental (94); Iloilo City (86); Aklan (76); Capiz (42) and Guimaras (23).
As of Wednesday, the total active cases in Western Visayas have climbed to 11,580 wherein 62.53% are asymptomatic; 32.85% exhibit mild symptoms; 2.26 percent have moderate symptoms; 2.21% are severe and 0.07% are critical.
But the health department noted the increasing positivity rate in the region. Positivity rate refers to the percentage of all COVID-19 tests performed that are actually positive.
Based on the data from DOH-6, the positivity rate of Western Visayas jumped to 21.01% on June 6 to June 12. This is higher than the 16.10% positivity rate of the region in the previous week.
Among the areas in the region, Antique posted the highest positivity rate on June 6 to 12 at 37.42% followed by Capiz (35.53%); Bacolod City (33.58%); and Negros Occidental (23.70%).
Meanwhile, Iloilo province has a 17.58% positivity rate while Guimaras has 16.59%. Aklan recorded a 16.59% positivity rate and Iloilo City with the lowest at 15.17%.
The DOH-6 has reminded the local government units (LGUs) to enhance their Prevent-Detect-Isolate-Test-Treat strategy to control the spread of Covid-19. (ERS)
