Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has been selected as a “fellow” to the prestigious Asia Pacific Mayors Academy Class 2021-2022 for mayors and governors in the Asia and Pacific Region.
In a letter, Kaveh Zahedi, deputy Executive Secretary and Officer-in-Charge of Environment and Development Division of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP); and Atsushi Koresawa, Regional Representative of the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific of UN Habitat confirmed that Treñas passed the admission for the Asia-Pacific Mayors Academy.
“On behalf of the organizers, we are pleased to inform you that you have been selected as a Fellow in the 2021- 2022 Academy class. Congratulations on your selection to be a Fellow! We look forward to hopefully working with you on this exciting initiative, and to welcoming you to the 2020- 2021 Academy class” the letter said.
The Asia Pacific Mayors Academy is organized by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and UN – Habitat in partnership with the United Nations University – Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU – IAS); the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), United Cities and Local Governments Asia – Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) and Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).
The event aims to build the capacities of newly elected or appointed city mayors and governors in Asia and the Pacific region, to foster a network of leaders, and facilitate peer-to-peer learning. (ERS)
