A police officer and two other persons were arrested in an illegal cockfight activity late afternoon of Nov 25, 2022 at Barangay San Salvador, Banate, Iloilo.
Unlike most of those who participated in the pauwak, Patrolman Yollyric Paparon, 36, a resident of Barangay Cag-an, Anilao, Iloilo, was not quick enough to flee to avoid getting arrested.
Paparon, who’s been with the service for six years, is assigned to Tubungan Municipal Police Station, a town around 88 kilometers from where he was arrested.
Paparon was collared along with Jonathan Felicedario, 48, of Barangay Merced, Banate and Paul Bert Boanerjes, 39, of Barangay Bariga, Banate.
Lieutenant Dandy Ilalto, Banate police chief, believed there could have been around 20 persons present at the makeshift illegal cockpit prior to the arrest.
Members of Banate Municipal Police Station and 2nd Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company recovered 14 pairs of slippers that were presumably left behind by cockfight enthusiasts.
Police also recovered P11,620 cash and cockfighting paraphernalia.
They also seized Paparon’s caliber .9mm pistol with one 1 magazine loaded with 17 live ammunition.
Ilalto said Paparon expressed remorse over what happened.
But police still filed a case against him and two others for violation of Presidential Decree 449 (Cockfighting Law of 1974).
