BACOLOD City – Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Negros Occidental chapter president Atty. Gerry Llena called for the preservation of the remaining watershed in the province.
Llena made the call during the weekend as IBP-Negros led a tree planting activity in the grassland of Don Salvador Benedicto town.
He said the area is considered to be the last watershed in the province.
“If we will not protect this, kita tanan sa lowland will be affected kay diri kita ga-kuha sang source sang aton tubig,” he stressed.
Llena said that aside from IBP, other groups that joined the activity were the youth, Bureau of Fire Protection, Vallacar Transit, Negros PH Solar Inc., the Philippine Air Force and the municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto.
Llena said they planted about 4,000 endemic species of trees.
The IP community in the area will oversee the planted trees.
Don Salvador Benedicto Mayor Marxlen de la Cruz said the activity will increase awareness as far as the importance of the environment is concerned.
He added, “Dako pa ang gap para maka recover ang aton forest so more efforts should be made.”
