ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Eighty-two candidates for punong barangay in the province’s 473 villages will run unopposed in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) today.
Based on Commission on Elections (Comelec) data, the unopposed candidates are from Roxas City (8) and the municipalities of Cuartero (2), Dao (2), Dumalag (2), Dumarao (4), Ivisan (5), Jamindan (9), Maayon (7), Mambusao (4), Panay (5), Panitan (5), Pilar (2), Pontevedra (2), President Roxas (8), Sapian (1), Sigma (4) and Tapaz (12).
Comelec-Roxas City election officer and lawyer Rommel Benliro revealed that among the unopposed bets are Roberto Ross Roldan of Adlawan, Rolly Hierro of Bago, and Bernie Barrientos of Culasi.
Also unopposed are Alfredo Villanueva of Gabu-an, Manuel Bongbong Aninang of Olotayan, Holce Bialen of Brgy. VIII, Rufino Dunton of Brgy. XI, and Efren Gregorio of Barangay Talon.
Meanwhile, 39 of the 47 barangays will try to defeat their opponents, most of whom are relatives.
On the other hand, political observers noticed that elections in barangays Dayao, Cagay, Inzo Arnaldo, Libas, Barra, Punta Tabuc, Tanza, Lawaan, Banica, Tiza, Mongpong and Loctugan would be exciting due to intense political rivalry.
4 CAPIZ MEDIAMEN TRY LUCK IN BSKE
Meanwhile, four members of the fourth estate in Capiz will try their luck in the BSKE.
Rico Infante of Radyo Todo-Capiz is running for reelection as barangay kagawad of Mongpong, Roxas City.
Rexam Laguda, former anchorman of Bandera-Capiz, GMA Super Radyo and Bombo Radyo-Roxas City is running for punong barangay of Tanza, Roxas City.
On the other hand, Ma. Celine Valerie Degoma alias DJ Tisay of Radyo Todo-Capiz is running for kagawad of Brgy. East Villaflores Maayon Capiz, while Abe Ballos of Radyo Bandera-Roxas is running for kagawad of Barangay Punta Tabuc here.
Laguda and Infante are both kagawad of Barangay Tanza and Mongpong, respectively. The two also ran for Roxas City councilor during last year’s elections but lost.
