BACOLOD CITY—The construction of the Negros Occidental Convention Center is set to boost not only the tourism industry but also the economy of the province.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the center will foster economic growth, create jobs, boost local businesses and tourism, and increase cultural, social, and educational events and exchanges.

Lacson, 3rd District Rep. Francisco “Kiko” Benitez, Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez, DPWH Usec. Roberto Bernardo, and DPWH Region VI Director Engr. Sanny Boy Oropel led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Negros Occidental Convention Center (NOCC) in Brgy. Guinhalaran, Silay City, on Thursday.

The convention center is strategically located near the Bacolod-Silay Airport and the junction of Bacolod North Road, poised to become a vital hub.

Rep. Benitez, in a post on his Facebook page, said, “This certified green building will prioritize eco-friendly practices.”

The two-story building will have a floor area of 8,640 square meters and feature a multipurpose facility that can accommodate up to 6,200 visitors and staff.

“With our vision for Metro Third and Negros Occidental as a convention hub in motion, this new center will host future conferences, conventions, cultural events, and social gatherings, enriching local culture and driving tourism by attracting more visitors and events to our province and cities,” Rep. Benitez added.

The structure is strategically located near the city’s major roads and key establishments and will be the first government convention center of international design standards on Negros Island. It will function as a venue for local and international conventions and other events, accommodating 6,200 people in its function halls and VIP rooms.

“May this notable development inspire us to accomplish many more remarkable milestones, securing the progress and development of our province,” Lacson said.
