A couple died after a delivery cab collided with their motorcycle late in the morning on October 22 in Tigbauan, Iloilo.
Leonardo Tagamolila, 52, and his wife Rhea Mae Tagamolila, 45, a teacher from Barangay San Jose, Tubungan, were killed in the head-on collision.
Reports said a Toyota Hi-Lux cab was traveling through Barangay Buyu-an around 11:10 a.m. when it swerved to avoid hitting a parked tricycle.
The vehicle, registered to SV More Pharma Corp., was driven by Rommy Galas, 59, of Barangay Alameda, Igbaras, Iloilo.
Galas failed to maneuver the vehicle back into his lane. As he veered into the opposite lane, the cab collided with the couple’s motorcycle.
The vehicle then crashed into a steel gate of a nearby house.
Captain Alfred Mansoy, Tigbauan police chief, said the couple was rushed to Rep. Pedro G. Trono Memorial Hospital in Guimbal town but was declared dead on arrival.
Reports indicated that the couple suffered head injuries. Although both wore crash helmets, the impact caused them to detach.
Galas was unharmed and was subsequently arrested and detained.
