Rep. Jude A. Acidre: “The Duterte Myth is Over—Filipinos Are Saying ‘Enough’”

TINGOG Partylist Representative Jude A. Acidre issued a powerful statement today, responding to recent survey results that highlight a growing public discontent with Duterte-style politics. Acidre pointed to key findings showing 41% of Filipinos agree with the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte and 61% support the ongoing Quadcomm hearings, as evidence that the so-called Duterte myth has been shattered.

“Add to that the consistent drop in VP Duterte’s trust ratings, and it’s obvious that the people are fed up,” Acidre said. “They’re tired of the same old Duterte-style politics—a culture of impunity, bullying tactics, and decisions that prioritize power over public service.”

Acidre called for decisive action, stressing that there is no middle ground on these issues. “Either we stand by the wayside and allow this type of politics to continue, or we take a firm stand to hold the Dutertes accountable. The choice is ours—our silence enables impunity, but our courage can spark change.”

He further emphasized the demand for a new kind of leadership, one that upholds fairness, accountability, and respect for the rule of law. “This isn’t just about one person or one family. It’s about a shift in our collective consciousness as a nation. Filipinos want leaders who will govern with integrity, compassion, and a clear vision for the future—not leaders who thrive on impunity and entitlement,” he said.

Acidre underscored that the days of impunity and political theatrics are numbered. “The surveys prove it: Filipinos are ready for leaders who put the public’s welfare front and center. It’s time for leaders to listen to the people.”

He ended on a hopeful note, reaffirming the strength of democracy in the country. “Let this be a reminder to all of us: our democracy is alive, and the Filipino people are ready to defend it.”
