BACOLOD CITY – A tragic accident resulted in the deaths of an ambulance driver and a stroke patient, with three others sustaining injuries, in Barangay Bug-ang, Toboso, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as 56-year-old ambulance driver Richard Cordova and Elojaylo Bayona, a 41-year-old patient. Police Major Jun Ray Batadlan, the local police chief, confirmed the identities.

Cordova was en route to Sagay Hospital from Toboso with Bayona when he lost control of the ambulance, Batadlan explained. Consequently, the vehicle careened into a canal and overturned.

According to Batadlan, poor lighting in the area could have been a contributing factor.

The hospital later pronounced Cordova and Bayona dead, Batadlan confirmed.

Additionally, a midwife, a relative of the patient, and Cordova’s son, who were all accompanying them, suffered minor injuries in the accident, Batadlan noted.
