A man was found dead with a gun in his right hand on the morning of May 4 in Calinog, Iloilo.

Initially, it was suspected that Rowel, 40, from Barangay Badu, was shot dead. He was found lying face down on the ground with blood spilled next to his body.

However, police investigators developed another theory after examining the body and finding the bullet’s entry point.

Major Fernand Limbungan, chief of Calinog Police, mentioned that foul play in Rowel’s death seems unlikely.

A local resident, who lives near the area where the body was discovered, reported hearing a single gunshot around 7 a.m. on Saturday but did not see any person or vehicle pass by.

The incident was reported to the police two hours later. According to the victim’s wife, Rowel had been suffering from severe migraines and had resorted to self-medication. She suggested that the severe headache might have triggered the incident.

Major Limbungan said the police are leaning towards the possibility that Rowel’s wound was self-inflicted.
