Around 200 members of the Ati Indigenous Community in Barangay Matag-ub, Janiuay, received free medical and dental services through the Atipan: Pagpakigbahin sang Kahimsog kag Paglaum outreach program.
The initiative was led by WVSU-MAARAM (Magaaral Na May Adbokasiya Para sa Pagtib’ung sang Kulturang Manggad) in partnership with various organizations, including the Asian Medical Students’ Association-West Visayas State University (AMSA-WVSU), UP Hamili Brotherhood, UP Hamilia Sisterhood, and the Iloilo City Integrated Lions and Leo Clubs.
A total of 40 volunteers participated in delivering healthcare services, medicines, and hygiene kits to the community.
WVSU-AMSA provided free medical checkups, while the WVSU College of Dentistry Student Council held a talk on proper toothbrushing techniques. The Philippine Dental Association-Iloilo Chapter distributed free dental kits to beneficiaries.
In celebration of Women’s Day, UP Hamili-Hamilia distributed 60 sanitary care packs to Ati women. The group also provided snacks for the entire community, lunch for volunteers, and transportation assistance.
The event was organized in coordination with Ati community chieftain Onyok Magbanua, Barangay Matag-ub officials led by Captain Banini Bandada, barangay health workers, and the Janiuay Municipal Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR).
The outreach program was made possible through the support of donors and partner organizations.
