Preparations are underway for the Love Boracay 2024 Sports Festival, set to take place from April 26-30, featuring an array of sports events.
Participants will compete in beach tennis, beach volleyball, beach soccer, football, dragon boat racing, ultimate frisbee, pickleball, round net, and non-sporting events like paraw racing and sandcastle building.
The festival marks the second event organized by the Boracay Racquet Sports Club PH, led by Maggie Tirol, Theo Dy, and Nok Sacapaño, following the recent Boracay Beach Games hosted at Whitehouse Beach Resort.
In the previous beach tennis competition, the duo of Dy and Ivana Caballero triumphed in the mixed doubles against Davis Alabi and Tirol with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 10-6.
The men’s doubles victory went to Keith Palmani and Matt Crisosto over CJ Luna and Bryan Magallanes, with a decisive 6-2, 6-1 scoreline.
Meanwhile, Tirol paired with Ada Yu to secure the women’s doubles championship, defeating Jenny Jara and Anais Silvestre 6-0, 6-1.
Dy expressed his relief and joy at breaking his streak of runner-up finishes.
“I always made it to finals but always ended up as a runner-up. In God’s will and time, I won,” he said, thanking his partner Ivana and looking forward to future tournaments.
Caballero, a former varsity tennis player and current employee at TJMC Clinic in Boracay, attributed her success to faith and effort.
“I just did my best, leaving it all up to Him above because I want to enjoy this despite the pressure,” she shared, appreciating the support and anticipating more tennis endeavors.
The organizers reflected on the success of the Boracay Beach Games, praising the high level of competition and expressing gratitude for the support from the local government, the Philippine Tennis Association, and sponsors.
Looking ahead, Dy, also a Philta board trustee and club secretary, anticipated the upcoming Love Boracay Sports Festival, recalling the previous event as “smooth sailing” and eagerly awaiting the next. (PNA)
