One of the most widely-renowned Brazilian tacticians in the sport of volleyball will no longer serve as the head coach of the Akari Chargers.

Jorge Souza de Brito, the Philippine women’s volleyball national team chief tactician, already stepped down as the main shot caller of Akari in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) confirmed last December 14, 2023.

De Brito’s resignation will immediately take place on December 15 and will no longer extend his stay with the Chargers.

The Brazilian coach had a four-conference stint with the Chargers but failed to take the young team to a single playoff qualification.

Their strongest chance was this year’s All-Filipino Conference when they kicked off the season strong. However, the squad’s momentum fell after receiving consecutive losses from the league’s veteran teams.

In total, de Brito had a sub-par career coaching Akari and helped the franchise amass an 11-21 win-loss record in all four conferences.

“Akari management has accepted Coach Jorge’s resignation and offers our sincerest appreciation, thanking him for his time and service during the four conferences he has served as the head tactician of this young, promising team,” wrote Akari in a statement.

As of now, the Akari management is yet to find a replacement for the Brazilian coach but will have to wait as the PVL will end its All-Filipino Conference this December.

“More announcements will follow soon regarding the new direction the Akari Chargers will take moving forward,” added Akari.
