Capiz farmer arrested for illegal possession of firearms

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A 35-year-old farmer from Barangay Taslan, Tapaz, Capiz, is facing charges for illegal gun possession after police discovered unlicensed firearms at his residence.

The arrest occurred during the execution of a search warrant on Tuesday morning, April 30.

The suspect, identified as Ronel Valderama, was found in possession of a .45 caliber pistol, a magazine loaded with four live rounds, and a rifle grenade.

The operation was based on a search warrant issued by Judge Judith Orendain Tunogbanua of the Regional Trial Court, 6th Judicial Region, Mambusao, Capiz, dated April 23, 2024.

Valderama is currently detained at the Tapaz Municipal Police Station. He faces charges under RA 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

These charges will be formally filed at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.

The tip leading to Valderama’s arrest came from a concerned citizen who reported the illegal firearms to the police.
