Challenges on Covid-19 decision

By Modesto P. Sa-onoy

Three doctors, George Fareed and Donald Pompan of California and Michael Jacobs of Florida wrote Dr. Antonio Fauci an open letter which was published by Tyler Durden on Facebook on August 15. The letter is long with challenging questions whose answers we need to know although they are hypothetical and practically speak for themselves.

The doctors said that Fauci was “placed into the most high-profile role regarding America’s response to the Coronavirus pandemic” to the extent that “Americans have relied on your medical expertise concerning the wearing of masks, resuming employment, returning to school, and of course medical treatment.”

The Philippines followed suit even to the extent that people in far-flung barangays where there are very few and well-distanced houses, were required to wear masks. I went to one of the barangays and nobody wore a mask. Until now not a single case was reported in that barangay as in many barangays where people don’t wear masks. The mask is one of those one-solution-fits-all mandates.

The doctors called Fauci as “largely unchallenged” in his medical opinions. “You are the de facto COVID-19 Czar”. This is unusual because “in the medical profession doctors’ opinions are challenged by other physicians in the form of exchanges between doctors at hospitals, medical conferences, as well as debate in medical journals. You render your opinions unchallenged, without formal public opposition from physicians who passionately disagree with you. It is incontestable that the public is best served when opinions and policy are based on the prevailing evidence and science, and able to withstand the scrutiny of medical professionals.”

Indeed, why was he not challenged in the United States? He lorded it over for six months and the medical world simply acquiesced to his opinions. The result is that, in the words of the White House, “he made many mistakes”. Those mistakes have caused the unrecoverable loss of lives of thousands, the crumbling of national economies, and social and religious chaos that would take years to correct.

Some people even challenged God’s words.

The three doctors continued. “As experience accrued in treating COVID-19 infections, physicians worldwide discovered that high-risk patients can be treated successfully as an outpatient, within the first 5 to 7 days of the onset of symptoms, with a “cocktail” consisting of hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and azithromycin (or doxycycline). Multiple scholarly contributions to the literature detail the efficacy of the hydroxychloroquine-based combination treatment.”

As I cited earlier our own doctors have found the means to treat the infected and there were recoveries. In fact, I wondered then, why were there recoveries when the DoH and the WHO were saying there are no cures or means to treat it? Their ex-cathedra assertions led to panic, fear that when one is infected death surely follows. That is not the case and although more people, recovered than died, this fact is not given any attention at least to allay the doomsday scenario.

The DoH and local governments played with infection data but hardly giving information about recoveries and nobody explained why they were healed. Is it the budget and another chance to loot the public treasury?

The three doctors cited Dr. Harvey Risch, the renowned Yale epidemiologist whose name I mentioned earlier. Dr. Risch, published an article in May 2020 in the American Journal of Epidemiology titled “Early Outpatient Treatment of Symptomatic, High-Risk COVID-19 Patients that should be Ramped-Up Immediately as Key to Pandemic Crisis”.

Dr. Risch further published an article in Newsweek in July 2020 which I cited before. The Newsweek article was intended for the general public, but with the same conclusions. He is an expert at evaluating research data and study designs, publishing over 300 articles. His assessment is that there is unequivocal evidence for the early and safe use of the “HCQ cocktail.”

Because of evidence of HCQ effectiveness, the doctors asked Fauci, “Why do you continue to reject the use of hydroxychloroquine, except in a hospital setting in the form of clinical trials, repeatedly emphasizing the lack of evidence supporting its use?” They claim that “HCQ has been used for 65 years… with a well-established safety profile,” but Fauci “deemed HCQ as unsafe for the treatment of symptomatic COVID-19 infections.”

We’ll continue on Monday as I will side-track tomorrow to deal with feedbacks.
