A police officer is now under hospital arrest after he got a beating following a road mishap early evening of June 24 at Tangalan, Aklan.

Police Patrolman Anthony Blas Dalmacio, 31, a resident of New Buswang, Kalibo, and detailed to Malay Police Station, is now recuperating at a hospital after he was mauled at Barangay Tagas.

The mauling happened after Dalmacio sideswiped Alenor Sultan, 27, of Afga village, Tangalan.

The police officer was on his way to Caticlan driving a utility vehicle issued by the local government unit to the Malay PNP when the road mishap happened.

Police Master Sergeant Remus Ramon Sandig, Tangalan PNP investigator, said Dalmacio was driving in a curve when he hit the victim who was crossing the street.

The victim was already on the outer lane, but the policeman appeared to have suddenly swerved to his left and hit Sultan. The victim was dragged for several meters.

Dalmacio then stopped to check on what happened.

But before he could even alight the vehicle, several men grabbed and took turns in mauling him.

Sultan was taken to Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital (DRSTMH) in Kalibo where he was declared dead on arrival.

Sandig said they have yet to file charges against Dalmacio for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.

It remains unclear if Dalmacio will sue the persons who mauled him.
