COVID-19 cases in WV near 400-mark

Coronavirus disease cases in Western Visayas are nearing the 400-mark, with 24 new cases recorded over the weekend, according to the Department of Health-Center for Health Development Western Visayas (DOH-CHD 6).

In a bulletin issued on Saturday, DOH-CHD 6 confirmed 16 new cases in Western Visayas involving 12 locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and four indigenous cases.

The 12 new positive LSIs are:

-a 31-year-old female from Bacolod City;

-a 31-year-old male from Manapla, Negros Occidental;

-a 28-year-old female from Toboso, Negros Occidental;

-a 20-year-old male from Tobos, Negros Occidental;

-a 16-year-old female from La Calatrava, Negros Occidental;

-a 31-year-old male from La Castallena, Negros Occidental;

-a 21-year-old female from Calatrava, Negros Occidental; a 39-year-old male from Toboso, Negros Occidental;

-a 29-year-old male from Calatrava, Negros Occidental;

-a 61-year-old female from Mandurriao, Iloilo City; and

-a 30-year-old female from Oton, Iloilo.

Iloilo City also logged four new local cases on Saturday – a 21-year-old male from Lapuz, Iloilo City; a 46-year-old male from City Proper, Iloilo City; a 33-year-old female from City Proper, Iloilo City; and a 60year-old female from Jaro, Iloilo City.

Another doctor and a housekeeping worker from the COVID-19-hit St. Paul’s Hospital Iloilo are among indigenous cases in Iloilo City, according to DOH-CHD 6.

A total of 11 medical personnel from St. Paul’s have been infected so far.

Meanwhile, Mayor Jerry Treñas confirmed on Sunday that a member of the Public Safety and Traffic Management Office (PSTMO) assigned to the City Hall Operations Center also tested positive for COVID-19.

In its Case Bulletin No. 101 on Sunday, the health department reported eight new additional cases of Covid-19 in Region 6.

The eight new cases are all locally stranded individuals from Iloilo province.

The eight cases included six from the first district of Iloilo province – a 62-year-old male from Oton, Iloilo; a 56-year-old male from Oton, Iloilo; a 24-year-old male from Miag-ao, Iloilo; a 31-year-old male from Tigbauan, Iloilo; a 22-year-old male from Tigbauan, Iloilo; and a 41-year-old male from Tigbauan, Iloilo.

The other two new cases include a 45-year-old male from Passi City, Iloilo and a 21-year-old male from Batad, Iloilo

As of Sunday, COVID-19 cases in the region neared the 400-mark with 389 total cases, 228 active cases, 150 recoveries, and 11 deaths.

Infected repatriates totaled to 271, including 113 from Negros Occidental, 55 from Iloilo province; 42 from Iloilo City; 41 from Bacolod City; eight from Guimaras; five from Aklan and Antique; and two from Capiz.

Iloilo province recorded the highest number of active cases at 17; followed by Iloilo City with 15; two from Negros Occidental; and one from Antique.
