The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Western Visayas is nearing the 100-mark, with 11 new cases recorded on Wednesday, bringing the total cases in the region to 91.
In its Case Bulletin No. 41, the Department of Health in Western Visayas -Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD 6) confirmed 11 additional COVID-19 cases – the highest single-day spike in the region so far.
Dr. May Ann Soliva-Sta. Lucia, cluster head of Health Promotion of DOH-CHD 6, said the 11 new patients are in Iloilo City (3), Antique (3), Bacolod City (2), Negros Occidental (2), and Guimaras (1).
Iloilo City recorded three new cases – a 28-year-old male from Mandurriao, Iloilo City (WV Patient No. 82) who is under facility quarantine; a 33-year-old male from Arevalo, Iloilo City (WV Patient No. 85) who is admitted in a hospital; and a 46-year-old male from Arevalo, Iloilo City (WV Patient No. 88) who is under facility quarantine.
The patient from Mandurriao is one of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) repatriates to Iloilo City.
Based on the health bulletin, nine of the new cases are repatriated OFWs who arrived in Western Visayas last week.
Among the repatriates who tested positive for Covid-19 is a 24-year-old male from Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. He is the second repatriate from Guimaras that contracted COVID-19.
“WV Patient No. 81 is a 24-year-old male from Guimaras. He is one of the repatriated OFWs and is under facility quarantine,” Sta. Lucia aid in a virtual press briefing on Wednesday.
Other repatriates who tested positive include a 30-year-old female from La Castellana, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No.83), 43-year-old male from Escalante City, Negros Occidental; 27-year-old male from Bacolod City (WV Patient No.86); 42-year-old male from Bacolod City (WV Patient No.88).
Meanwhile, three repatriates from Antique also tested positive – a 38-year-old male from Laua-an, Antique (WV Patient No.89); 42-year-old male from Tobias Fornier, Antique (WV Patient No. 90) and 34-year-old male from Hamtic, Antique (WV Patient No.91).
Sta. Lucia said all repatriates who tested positive are under facility quarantine.
As of Wednesday, COVID-19 cases in the region spiked to 91 with 31 recoveries and 10 deaths.
The total cases in Western Visayas include 22 repatriated OFWs – 14 are under facility quarantine; seven are admitted in a health facility; and one who already tested negative in the repeat test.
