COVID-19 cases in Iloilo City continue to drop as the metro only logged 28 local cases on Sunday, October 10, 2021, one of the lowest tallies in a day since January 2021, based on City Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (CESU) reports.
The 28 new cases included 21 local transmissions while seven are new cases. Aside from the 28 local cases, the city also logged two positive returning residents, two authorized persons outside residence (APORs), and one returning Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW).
The significant drop in infections in Iloilo City continued in the first week of October.
From October 1-10, the city only recorded 503 total cases or an average of 60 cases per day. This is more than half, or 61% lower, than the 1,552 cases logged last September 1-10 with an average of 155 cases per day.
Notably, the city has consistently recorded less than 100 new cases per day.
Iloilo City logged the lowest number of new cases last October 10 at 28; followed by 39 on Oct. 3; 46 on Oct. 7; 48 on Oct. 9; 62 on Oct. 4; 66 on Oct. 8; 72 on Oct. 6; 73 on Oct. 1; 83 on Oct.5 and 86 o Oct. 2.
In previous interviews, the Iloilo City Covid-19 Team explained that the sudden drop of Covid-19 cases in Iloilo City can be attributed to the city’s massive vaccination roll-out, active contact tracing, and imposition of granular lockdowns.
Meanwhile, the city continues to advocate the public to have themselves vaccinated due to the threats of Covid-19 mortalities to unvaccinated individuals.
Data from the CESU revealed that nine out of the ten Covid-19 deaths recorded in the metro from Oct. 1 to 9 were unvaccinated.
“The risks of comobordity have increased to those unvaccinated especially those who have comorbidities. Bilang amay sang ciudad ginapangayo ko guid nga magbuliganay kita para sa pagprotekta sang aton mga kasimanwa pinaagi sa pagpabakuna batok sa Covid-19,” Mayor Jerry Treñas said in a statement on Monday.
