BACOLOD CITY – A delivery rider was killed after his motorcycle collided with a Ceres Liner bus in Barangay To-oy, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, last Sunday.

Police identified the fatality as 41-year-old Hernan Panaligan.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Grande, the city police chief, said the victim was allegedly speeding on his way home, based on witnesses’ statements.

Grande mentioned that it’s possible the victim might have dozed off or tried to avoid something on the road, causing him to lose control of his motorcycle and veer into the bus lane.

The victim, who was not wearing a helmet, died on the spot, according to Grande.

The bus driver and his passengers, who were on their way to Bacolod, were unharmed, the police chief added.

Grande noted that representatives from Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI) and the victim’s family had already met for an initial settlement.

The bus company has assured assistance to the victim’s family, he added.

Grande said the bus driver would be released from police custody after the 36-hour reglementary detention.
