THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Western Visayas made sure that children of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps continue to attend school.

DSWD-6 information officer May Rago-Castillo briefed the PDLs detained at the Iloilo District Jail Female Dormitory on the department’s programs, particularly the 4Ps program.

Rago-Castillo advised the PDLs to tell their family members to use the cash grant for their children’s education.

DSWD gathered positive response from PDLs as some of them assured that they keep tabs of their children’s education.

“Very good nga bisan ari kamo diri, ang importante maayo ang pag-eskwela  sang mga bata,” Rago-Castillo said.

Aside from education, she said that it is also important that the children get proper nourishment through healthy food and supplements.

“Ang cash grant nga ginahatag, bisan diri kamo iadvise niyo guid ang inyo pamilya  nga gamiton guid para sa education sa pag-eskwela kag para sa health sang mga bata, pagkaon nila, vitamins nila,” she said.

Rago-Castillo emphasized that the program of the government aims to end the intergenerational poverty.

“Intergenerational cycle of poverty nga pigado si nanay, pigado man ang bata liwat, tapos ang mga apo pigado naman,” she said.

In 2018, 4Ps has served more than 4 million beneficiaries and was implemented in 143 cities an 1, 489 municipalities in 81 provinces nationwide.

The DSWD-6 and Iloilo Provincial Capitol Press Corps (IPCPC) initiated a gift-giving activity at the Iloilo District Jail Female Dormitory in Jan 7, 2018.

154 detainees received meals from DSWD and hygiene kits from IPCPC.

The hygiene kits include soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and sanitary napkins.

“Very excited kami nga makahatag kami sang blessings man namon sang last year. Hopefully next year, mapabakod namon angnetworking sa nagasupport sa amon para madugangan namon ang amon nga blessings para sa inyo,” Elena Pabiona, IPCPC president said.
