Donnie “Ahas” Nietes is back.
After his 27-month inactivity in the boxing ring, the prized Filipino boxer looked like his old self and dominated Pablo Carillo of Colombia via a unanimous decision win during their super-flyweight division showdown.
Nietes didn’t lose a step and fought with the same steady style that he’s known for since his professional boxing career started.
The experienced Filipino slugger still knew when and where to throw the most efficient punches as he conducted a hitting clinic from the first to the last round of the fight.
Carillo began to engage in the action during the middle rounds but the clever Nietes stuck with his strategy and thoroughly picked him apart while piling up his score in the cards.
Nietes was able to clinch the comeback victory via the score of 96-95, 98-92, and 99-91 to improve his storied career win-loss record to 43-1-5 (23 KOs).
With the win, Nietes again included himself in the conversation of the top flyweights in the sport.
Rumors of Nietes’ next opponent immediately followed the fight which included top dogs Juan Estrada, Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez, and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.
