Local farmers and residents of Barangay Tagsing in Leon, Iloilo and its neighboring communities will soon have better and safer transportation access with the upgrading of barangay roads implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
DPWH, Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office is currently undertaking the roughly ₱4.85-million road upgrading project which involves the upgrading of the existing 358.93-lineal meter earth carriageway into a 2-lane Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) road.
This also includes the construction of slope protection and drainage structures in specific areas to ensure road stability and safety of the motorists and the people in the area.
Citing the report of District Engineer (DE) Mario G. Soriano, Regional Director (RD) Nerie D. Bueno said the road paving will provide a better road network for better mobility of the people and easier transport of products from farms to the market.
“This road improvement will offer a vital contribution to economic development and growth in the locality and provides easy access to basic services and economic opportunities for an improved quality of life,” RD Nerie D. Bueno said.
“With this concrete road, residents in the upland barangays of Leon will have uninterrupted, all-weather access to the town proper to secure their basic home and personal needs, even when heavy rains occur,” RD Bueno added.
“They will no longer struggle with the muddy when wet, and dusty when dry road they used to experience with the existing earth road. Traveling to the market and other government and private establishments in the town will be more accessible,” RD Bueno further said.
In addition, DE Mario G. Soriano said that other than enhancing the mobility of people the concrete road will facilitate easier, cost-efficient transport of farm products and easier access for the government in the delivery of basic services to the people.
“This paved road traverses along vast agricultural lands, hence, its improvement will greatly benefit the people, especially producers of crops and other agricultural products, and animal raisers,” DE Soriano stressed.
“With this concrete road, we are hopeful that our farmers and raisers can easily transport their crops and vegetables, as well as poultry and cattle from farms to the market, which could eventually help alleviate their economic condition,” DE Soriano added.
DPWH will continue to implement significant road projects that will connect rural communities to main thoroughfares for faster transportation and easy access to basic government services.
As the engineering arm of the government, DPWH continues to undertake significant and quality infrastructure facilities and services that are responsive to the needs of the people, especially in the remote areas in the pursuit of sustainable development. (DPWH-6)
