KABANKALAN CITY, Negros Occidental — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a new two-story multi-purpose building in Barangay Tagukon, enhancing community facilities and ensuring accessibility for all residents, including those with special needs.

The ₱5 million project, managed by the DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office, includes public restrooms and a waiting area on the ground floor, alongside a multi-function hall on the second floor. It is designed to host community events and provide a comfortable meeting space for the residents of Barangay Tagukon and visitors.

“Equipped with a water tank to ensure an adequate supply for sanitation, the building also features solar panels with an inverter and batteries to guarantee an uninterrupted power supply,” said Sanny Boy Oropel, Regional Director.

Highlighting the inclusive design, RD Oropel emphasized, “The installation of an accessibility ramp ensures that the building caters not just to the able-bodied but is also fully accessible to persons with special needs.”

District Engineer Rodney A. Gustilo noted the facility’s role in community engagement, stating, “This building is not only a place for local officials to conduct activities but also serves as a refuge for those in need of temporary shelter and for travelers seeking a rest area.”

This initiative is part of the DPWH’s ongoing efforts to provide essential public utilities that prioritize health, safety, and the social welfare of local communities. (DPWH)
