A woman was hurt after she was beaten by a neighbor-relative who unceremoniously barged into their house in Carles, Iloilo early evening of September 19.
Nora (not her real name) said she was resting her head on a seat inside their house at Barangay Asluman around 6:30 p.m. of Sunday. She was already half-asleep when the suspect, 24-year-old Wewin Ausa arrived.
Ausa was allegedly too drunk that he laid his head on the victim’s lap.
Nora then pushed the suspect from her lap.
The startled Ausa then got a hold of the victim’s cane and immediately struck her arm and right eye.
Relatives immediately came to the rescue and restrained the suspect.
The victim was rushed to Carles Rural Health Unit for treatment.
Major Nestor Bacuyag, Carles police chief, said Ausa initially had no intention to molest or physically harm the victim.
The two are second cousins. The woman was 48 years old based on her birth certificate, but authorities surmised that she is almost 60 years old.
“Matanda na talaga si Nanay (victim). Na-late registration lang siya kaya 48 pa lang nakalagay sa birth certificate niya,” he said.
There were also reports that the woman could be suffering from mental illness.
“May mga instances daw that she was talking to herself,” Bacuyag said.
When police investigators asked Ausa what happened, he admitted that he was too wasted to remember anything.
Nora has already signed an affidavit of non-interest to pursue a case against Ausa.
To mitigate the tension, Ausa said that he will not go back to Asluman village in the meantime, and will stay with a relative in Dumangas town.
