The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in partnership with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), conducted the Creative Industries Satellite Account (CISA) Workshop from April 23-26, 2024, aimed at enhancing the Philippines’ creative economy through dynamic mapping and data collection.

The initiative is crucial for the implementation of the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act, aligning with Republic Act 11904, which focuses on bolstering the economic impact of creative sectors, according to a DTI press statement.

The CISA project is a key component of DTI’s strategy to propel the creative industries by providing accurate data for policy development and strategic planning.

Director Lilian Salonga of the DTI-Bureau of Industry Planning and Innovation highlighted the collaboration’s significance.

“We know that our stakeholders—including creative industry players, government offices, and policymakers—are eagerly awaiting the outcomes of this CISA project. We’re committed to making sure their trust in us is well-placed. By pooling our talents and sharing our expertise, we’re setting the stage to boost economic growth and establish ourselves as Asia’s top creative hub by 2030,” Salonga said.

The workshop covered essential topics such as the role of creative industries in economic development, dynamic mapping techniques, and conducting macro-level economic impact assessments. It also featured success stories from other countries to provide a comparative perspective.

Key participants included Deputy National Statistician Divina Gracia Del Prado and representatives from various PSA offices such as the Sectoral Statistics Office, Censuses and Technical Coordination Office, and the Office of the National Statistician’s Statistical Methodology Unit.

Nordicity, a firm specializing in policy advisory and decision-making support, facilitated the four-day event.

In 2023, the creative economy contributed 7.1 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product, totaling PHP 1.72 trillion.

With its vast scope covering nine domains and 73 sectors, the Philippine creative industries are expected to play a more significant role in national economic growth, supported by ongoing efforts like the CISA project from DTI and PSA.
