BACOLOD City – Another drowning incident happened over the weekend, claiming the life of an eight-year-old boy in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.
Commander Jansen Benjamin, head of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Negros Occidental, identified the fatality as Jerome Guguan.
Benjamin said that Guguan was reported missing Sunday afternoon after he went swimming alone in a river at Barangay 1 where he is residing.
The child was swept by the strong river current when heavy rains fell, Benjamin said. His body was retrieved under a bridge of Luguay river at Barangay 3 yesterday.
His remains were identified by his father. He had no injuries.
Last week, three teenagers also died because of drowning when they went swimming at a river while three others survived the tragedy in Barangay Mandalagan here. Their bodies were retrieved at Matab-ang river in Talisay City.
