Embracing grace, grit, and gratitude: A tribute to the graduates of 2022-2023

By Dr. Herman M. Lagon

AS THE school year ends, let us honor the graduates of 2022-2023, whose resilience and determination have been truly remarkable. Among these exceptional individuals is my daughter, Psyche Mae, a shining example of strength and perseverance, who will be marching in this Friday’s graduation rites for her master’s degree in guidance and counseling at one of the best schools in the country, West Visayas State University. She not only achieved academic success but also inspired others with her unwavering spirit.

Psyche’s journey is a testament to the determination and the pursuit of love, service, and excellence. From a public school to Ateneo de Iloilo High, she flourished, earning awards in journalism, performing arts, and community service. College brought out her leadership skills, and she graduated cum laude with one of the most outstanding theses in her batch.

Beyond academics, Psyche is a strong, independent-minded woman, embodying the ideals of being “a woman for others.” In her own leadership, digital, and graphic design ways and skills, she tries to champion truth, democracy, human rights, and social justice. Her chosen yearbook photo, “Ang namulat, hindi na muling pipikit. #Tumindig” (Those who have awakened, will remain awake. #standup), reflects her commitment to making a difference.

The journey of a young professional is filled with obstacles, but grace, grit, and gratitude allow individuals like Psyche to flourish. Her story resonates with countless others facing trials, refusing to be deterred by setbacks. We should embrace our own journeys, appreciating the lessons learned and the growth that comes from perseverance.

As we celebrate the graduates of 2022-2023, let us remember that each one possesses a unique story of triumph and resilience. They have conquered fears, overcome obstacles, and emerged victorious. Graduation symbolizes their ability to thrive, adapt, and positively impact the world.

To all graduates, carry the lessons learned, friendships forged, and memories made as you embark on the next chapter of your lives. Guided by Christian values, embrace the unknown with open hearts and minds. Challenges will fuel your growth and lead to greater accomplishments. Thrive with grace, grit, and gratitude, leaving a lasting impact wherever your journey takes you.

Congratulations, graduates! The world eagerly awaits your unique contributions, and we have unwavering confidence in your ability to achieve extraordinary things.
