BACOLOD City – Police seized a loose firearm, ammunition, and explosive from the house of an alleged former member of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay Sag-ang, La Castellana, Negros Occidental last Tuesday.
But the subject identified as 64-year-old Ramonito Osano, escaped from the police operatives who were supposed to serve him four arrest warrants.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Benitez Jr., deputy chief of Regional Intelligence Division (RID)-6, said Osano reportedly sighted the policemen from afar, prompting him to leave his house by jumping into the bushes and slope portion of the area.
After which, he allegedly shot the policemen until he fled.
Police recovered from his house a .45 caliber pistol with a magazine loaded with seven live ammunition, and a hand grenade.
Benitez said that based on the information received by the La Castellana Municipal Police Station, Osano was a former NPA rebel, but he did not surrender to the government.
Osano has arrest warrants for frustrated murder, attempted homicide, murder, and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
The court set a bail of P200,000, and P12,000 for the first two arrest warrants, respectively, while no bail was recommended for the two other offenses, according to the police.
With the recent recovery, Benitez said that Osano will be facing charges for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, and illegal possession of explosive.
