Farmer accused of indiscriminate firing, threats, nabbed in gun raid

A 52-year-old farmer was arrested in a firearm raid on his house in Dumarao, Capiz morning of Oct. 18, 2023.

Police identified the suspect as Eduardo Martino, a resident of Barangay Bungsuan, Dumarao.

Members of the Dumarao Municipal Police Station, together with the 2nd Capiz Provincial Mobile Force Company, scoured Martino’s house through Search Warrant No. 47-2023 issued by Judge Lorencito B Diaz of the Regional Trial Court Branch 17 in Roxas City, Capiz.

Police recovered magazines for a caliber .45 pistol and assorted ammunition.

Major Christopher Candelario, Dumarao police chief, said they raided Martino’s house following complaints of indiscriminate firing, which the latter mostly committed when he’s drunk.

He was also accused of threatening residents with his gun.

Martino admitted that the seized was taken from his possession but claimed someone let him borrow it.

He was mum on accusations that he was illegally discharging his gun when he was drunk.

Martino is now detained and will be charged with violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
