TRIGGER WARNING: SUICIDE
Differences with his father prompted a teenager to take his own life Sunday evening in Zarraga, Iloilo.
The parents of Enzo (not his real name) tried to stop him but it was too late.
He was rushed to Don Jose S. Monfort Medical Center in Barotac Nuevo town but did not survive.
According to reports, the family was having dinner when an argument ensued between Enzo and his father.
Captain Raphy Señeres, Zarraga police chief, said the father admonished the victim for coming home drunk.
Enzo, a Grade 8 student, played basketball and went drinking liquor with his friends after the game.
But it appeared during the investigation that the victim could have harbored some resentment against his father.
He allegedly mentioned in the past how his parents favored his other siblings.
Enzo is the eldest in a brood of three.
Señeres said the father tried to prevent the boy from hurting himself but it was already too late.
The gun he used was not recovered after the mother claimed to have thrown it away.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health has constantly reminded those who have problems or those who knew individuals who are at risk of committing suicide that they could seek help and mental health crisis intervention:
