Financial Education Expo highlights cybersecurity, digital literacy, and financial resilience

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) virtually conducted its 3rd Financial Education Stakeholders Expo on 26-27 November 2020.

In his keynote address, BSP Governor Benjamin E. Diokno encouraged Filipinos to keep pace as the world turns progressively digital and to arm themselves with financial literacy and financial preparedness to weather socio-economic shocks such as the COVID-19 pandemic and recent natural disasters.

The Expo sessions focused on cybersecurity, digital literacy and financial resilience, two timely topics as the pandemic tests Filipinos’ ability to cope and thrive amidst an increasingly digital environment. Panelists during Day 1 of the Expo offered diverse perspectives on the cybersecurity and digital literacy issues faced by consumers, as well as big and small businesses, but ultimately echoed one key message: E-safety is a joint responsibility of financial regulators, financial service providers and financial consumers.

Discussions during Day 2 of the Expo meanwhile highlighted the importance of preparing for contingent events through wise investment management and estate planning. The Expo also premiered financial education videos developed by the BSP with public and private sector partners, to be utilized in various financial education programs targeting key audiences such as civil servants and teachers, uniformed personnel, and overseas Filipino workers.

This is the first time that the Expo sessions are conducted virtually and livestreamed on the BSP Facebook page, reaching a daily online audience of more than 14,000 and garnering around 300 shares as of 02 December 2020. The sessions can still be viewed through the following links:
