BACOLOD City – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Negros Occidental mounted a search and rescue operation after a fisherman was reported missing when his motorized boat capsized in the waters of Barangay 1, Ilog, Negros Occidental late Tuesday night.

Commander Jansen Benjamin, head of PCG-Negros Occidental, said that 32-year-old Isagani Avansenia, and his brother Ivar, 35, both residents of Barangay Bocana, went fishing around 11 p.m. when their boat got tangled in a fishing net.

Benjamin said Isagani fell into the sea while Ivar was able to hold onto something as the boat submerged in the water.

Ivar survived and is unscathed. He was rescued by Marilyn Rose and Jenni Villegas who passed by the area on a motorized boat, Benjamin said.

The capsized boat was towed to the shoreline the following day.
Benjamin said that they have already coordinated with the nearby barangays in the search.

Isagani is still missing as of 5 p.m. yesterday.
