BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez ordered all government offices in Bacolod to fly the Philippine flags at half-mast, mourning the death of former Negros Occidental governor Daniel “Bitay” Lacson Jr.
In Executive Order No. 148, issued on September 9, Benitez directed that the flags be flown at half-mast for five days, starting Monday, as a tribute to the former governor.
“Let this act serve as a humble tribute to his lifelong commitment to public service and the significant contributions he made to our community and the nation at large,” Benitez said in the executive order.
The mayor described the late governor as a dedicated public servant who faithfully served the people of Negros Occidental and the country.
Benitez noted that Lacson’s leadership, especially during his time as governor, had a lasting impact on the province’s development.
In addition to his role as governor, Lacson held key national leadership positions, including as chairman of the Philippine National Bank (PNB) and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
His leadership in these institutions, Benitez said, contributed to the financial stability of the country.
“Former Governor Lacson’s life and service inspire the younger generation, exemplifying values of integrity, leadership, and dedication to public service,” Benitez added.
Lacson passed away peacefully at his home on Friday night, September 6, at the age of 77, surrounded by his family.
