BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) appealed to the public to forgo face-to-face Christmas parties.

Leonardia urged everyone to take a sacrifice this Christmas, adding that what is important is to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The mayor is also expected to issue an inter-office memorandum directing every department to forgo Christmas parties.

He said that while figures showed that COVID-19 cases in the city have been steadily going down, there is no reason to be complacent.

“Daku ang improvement but COVID-19 can come back anytime,” the mayor said.

He said that “the best gift we can give to our loved ones this Christmas is to strictly observe health protocols.”

EOC executive director and City Administrator Em Ang said Business Process Outsourcing companies agreed to hold virtual instead of face-to-face Christmas parties.

She said that EOC records showed there are 32 barangays in the city that remain COVID-free in the past 14 days.

Nine new COVID cases were reported on Dec 10.

The city has tallied 5,484 cases (5,137 recoveries, 168 deaths, and 179 active cases).
