Four Indian nationals, deemed to be overstaying in the Philippines, were detained late in the afternoon on February 22 in Oton, Iloilo.

Agents of the Bureau of Immigration, with assistance from the local police, arrested a 57-year-old woman, a 32-year-old man, a 56-year-old woman, and a 56-year-old man at their rented residence in Savannah Subdivision, Barangay Polo Maestra-Vita, Oton.

The arrests were made for violations of the conditions and limitations of their non-immigrant status as stipulated under Section 37(a)(7) of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940.

The individuals allegedly failed to produce the necessary documents to justify their continued stay in the country.

Reports indicate that similar enforcement actions have been carried out in other parts of the region.
