Hanging of practical donations across fences which became famous in Europe has made its way to the “City of Love”.
Free bread hanging on bike lane railings and trees along Diversion Road or Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue in Mandurriao district welcomed Ilonggos who were either walking or biking Friday morning.
The assorted breads were from a popular brand but the person or group behind the inspiring initiative remained unknown.
In its Facebook page, LPuKidsIbike captured photos of some Ilonggos having their fill of the free bread.
Hanging practical donations across the fences such as food, clothes, and other necessities became popular in Germany and other European countries to help homeless people who are struggling at the height of the pandemic.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas couldn’t help but be extremely proud of the initiative.
According to Treñas, the love and compassion of Ilonggos continue to shine in whatever situation or challenges that the Ilonggos are dealing with.
“As I always say, one of the things that made me proud being the father of this city is the love and the compassion that continues to ignite in the heart of every Ilonggos in whatever situation we are dealing with,” he said in a statement on Friday.
The initiative is a unique and simple way to help Ilonggos who are in need amid the trying times.
“Ang tagsa sa aton ang may ara nga kina-iya sa pag bulig kag pag pakita sang kaayo sa aton isig kapareho. Kabay nga ang ini nga binuhatan, ang naka hatag sa aton sang manami nga pag pananmyaw sang maayong aga!” he added.
Netizens hailed the initiative and expressed their admiration to the residents of Iloilo City.
“I truly love people. What a great place, great people,” one netizen commented.
“The spirit of Christmas comes early in the city of love. In this trying time, here in Iloilo City, sharing is anytime, anywhere, and for everyone,” another netizen said.
Meanwhile, another shared, “Generosity is real. Glad to know may mga kindhearted individuals sa city of Iloilo nga gabalikid sa mga nalisdan. God Bless you!” (ERS)
