Girl, 12, drowns in river

BACOLOD City – A 12-year-old girl drowned in a river at Mangrove plant Nursery Area, Aqua Cards, Barangay 13, Victorias City, Negros Occidental last Sunday.

Police withheld the name of the minor-victim who was a resident of the said village.

Investigation indicated that the victim tagged along with her father who was on duty at that time as a member of Bantay Katunggan.

Bantay Katunggan is a group responsible in guarding and maintaining mangrove areas in a community.

The victim reportedly swam into the deep portion of the river and drowned due to the strong river current, according to the police.

She was rushed to Kaayong Lawas Medical Foundation but was pronounced dead on arrival.
