BACOLOD CITY – Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson stated that evacuees who left their homes due to the Kanlaon Volcano eruption Monday night must remain in evacuation centers until the alert level decreases.

In a phone interview with reporters, Lacson said he visited various evacuation centers in La Castellana town and La Carlota City on Wednesday.

Lacson also met with La Castellana Mayor Rhummyla Nicor-Mangilimutan, who declared the town under a state of calamity.

Mangilimutan informed Lacson that the state of calamity declaration aims to freeze commodity prices. She noted that masks were being sold at P4 each following Kanlaon’s eruption.

The governor emphasized that everyone must wait for advice from Phivolcs regarding the situation of Kanlaon Volcano, which remains unpredictable.

Lacson said he toured the area to ensure that aid from the provincial government reaches affected families.

Meanwhile, Mangilimutan issued an executive order suspending work in all government offices and agencies in the town due to the volcano’s eruption.
