Guimbal school shuts down after teacher contracts COVID-19

A teacher of Guimbal National High School in Iloilo tested positive for COVID-19, forcing authorities to temporary close the school premises.

School Principal IV Darwin Haro confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that one of their female teachers yielded positive results in her real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.

According to Haro, the positive teacher is currently asymptomatic and is in good condition.

“I am informing the public that one of our female teachers was tested positive for Covid-19. She is in good condition and asymptomatic. For the meantime, we are closing Guimbal National High School until further notice,” he said.

Haro said the patient was among the 2nd batch of teachers that were subjected to pooled testing conducted by the Guimbal Rural Health Unit (RHU) last October 15.

The free testing for the teachers in Guimbal was initiated by Rep. Janette Garin.

Meanwhile, Haro assured the public that all necessary measures to control the spread of the virus are being undertaken by the school.

“The safety of our teachers, staff, parents, and the community is our priority,” he stressed.

Parents are advised to coordinate with the teachers through text, call or messenger for coordination and collaboration.  (ERS)
