BACOLOD City – The Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station in Negros Occidental offered a P20,000 cash reward to anyone who can give information that will lead to the recapture of 23-year-old Reco Layan.

Layan, who was arrested in July this year for murder, escaped from the said police station on Oct 14, 2020.

Lieutenant Wilma Silva, deputy public information officer of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), said Layan complained that he was feeling ill while inside the jail that day, prompting the jailer to release him for medical examination.

Silva said Layan was not handcuffed, as he was just within the vicinity of the police station.

He was allowed to leave the custodial facility to breathe fresh air, hoping it could improve his condition,” Silva said.

However, Layan found an opportunity to escape. He fled on board a motorcycle parked outside the gate. He allegedly hotwired the motorcycle then drove away.

Silva said police tried to chase him but to no avail.

“Parang ang bilis lang nung nangyari,” she added.

Silva said the jailer, desk officer, who were on duty at that time, as well as the police chief will be investigated to determine if they had lapses.

A manhunt operation is ongoing to locate Layan’s whereabouts. For any information, please contact Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station through 09989674425 and 09099191720.
