ICTSI South Pacific, a division of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) and the leading port operator in Papua New Guinea, has donated 1 million kina (PGK) to aid the Enga Provincial Disaster Management Trust in relief efforts following a devastating landslide in Enga Province.
The landslide in Tulipato village, Mulitaka, Enga Province, has resulted in significant casualties, with approximately 2,000 people missing and 8,000 displaced. The disaster has caused extensive damage to homes and food gardens, leaving the community in urgent need of assistance.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of so many lives, homes, and food gardens caused by the landslide. Recovery efforts are being severely hampered by the treacherous terrain and continued land movement and landslips,” said Robert Maxwell, CEO of ICTSI South Pacific.
Maxwell emphasized ICTSI’s commitment to supporting the affected communities. “We feel a strong responsibility to support our Papua New Guinea communities in times of need. Our donation of 1 million kina is a testament to our commitment to helping the people of Enga Province recover and rebuild their lives,” he added.
ICTSI South Pacific has been active in corporate social responsibility, engaging in initiatives that support local communities and promote sustainable development. Since its incorporation in 2017, ICTSI South Pacific has invested over PGK 200 million to empower Papuan communities, operating key terminals like Motukea International Terminal (MIT) in Port Moresby and South Pacific International Container Terminal (SPICT) in Lae Tidal Basin.
